I’m a Design and Engineering Manager based near Swindon, UK. I have worked on projects ranging from tablet computers, smartphones and radios, through to vehicle interiors, toys and test equipment. From initial concept visualisation and user research through to manufacture and assembly processes, I have worked to bring products to life, and to design with one simple goal: to make products that work.

Experience:
ARROW ELECTRONICS
Engineering Projects Manager • 2019 – Current
Senior leadership position overseeing both the Engineering (development) department, and the Production (manufacture) department within a custom engineering solution division of a global organisation. Responsible for multi-million-pound programmes, from initial concept through to ongoing manufacture.
METRIC GROUP
Design Team Lead • 2017 – 2019
Management position reporting directly to the Director of R&D and the Managing Director. Overseeing a team consisting of full time and contractual employees, as well as managing external design consultancies and a business group design resource based in China.
My role focused on projects relating to two key areas of the business – parking (the manufacture of parking systems such as Pay and Display machines and ticketing kiosks) and transport (on-bus systems, for taking payment on public transport and producing tickets). I also had a key responsibility in bringing about systems change within the design section of the organisation; updating processes and methods, streamlining the way that the department worked, and ensuring that projects were delivered effectively, on time and within budget.
TETRATAB
Head of Design • 2011 – 2017
Managing all aspects of design within one of the largest suppliers of computing devices to emergency services and mobile workers in the UK. I was involved in a wide range of projects, taking new products from research and client briefs, through detailed design and testing, to full mass manufacture and implementation. My involvement within the company included design consultancy services for a range of clients, which I oversaw and completed, as well as participating in developing strategic plans for TETRATAB’s growth.
In addition to introducing a successful new range of core products for mainstream business, I managed both a marketing team (overseeing all graphics and branding development for the company) and an international engineering team of over 60 people in 5 countries, developing devices in partnership with some of the world’s largest brands in electronics, computing and telecommunications.
HRhV Design
Freelance Industrial Designer • 2007 – Current
Working on a consultancy basis, I developed a range of innovative products and solutions for various clients. Some projects were based purely on concept development and ergonomic research, whereas others involved full design services from sketches to physical product and promotional packaging.
In addition, I also worked on several self-started design projects, ranging from electronic wearables and jewellery to medical instruments.
BLOODHOUND SSC Land Speed Record Project
Design Engineer • 2009 – 2011
Working as a Design Engineer for Richard Noble, I worked as a key member of the engineering team creating a 1000MPH Land Speed Record vehicle. With the limited size of the team, I worked on many varied projects and tasks with the main focus of my role being on cockpit design.
Additional projects included the design and manufacture of test rigs, high quality model making, graphics, exhibition design and CAD. Due to the public nature of the project, I also took on a key role in public speaking, radio and social media.
